Starting Up Again

Back to updating this again, I also made a few minor cosmetic changes! Been really busy ever since BF3 came out. I have mostly been working and practicing for the TWL Launch Tournament that started the week after release. I joined a team called Zero Point Gaming, but after 3 weeks we were picked up by an awesome gaming organization called Area 51 Gaming. They have been around for a while and you can find the main site at http://area51gaming.com. We are yet to still sign contracts but for the most part we are apart of the Area 51 family. I started this site for fun to focus more on the BF3 side of things as our main site is a multi-gaming website for all of the Area 51 teams. Here I can update on my own and let everyone know what’s up with the team. Stay tuned I will release the first update about what’s going on with the team soon!!

TWL’s BF3 Launch Tournament is Full

After only 4 days of being released, the TWL BF3 Launch tournament registrations is now full with 64 teams registered. Teams still wanting to join will most likely have to wait for teams to drop out or teams with less than 8 members to be dropped from the brackets. I can already see some amazing match ups between the old established BF2 and BC2 teams in early rounds. Not only that, but every round looks like there will be some epic battles and some epic upsets! Can’t wait!

GeForce LAN Tourney and How BF3 will Own

YouTube Preview Image

This past weekend was the first official LAN tournament for BF3 which was located in California. The finals came down to two teams. Legendary Battlefield team [20ID] and their opponent Team DC. But the outcome came to a surprise to everyone as [20ID] was upset by Team DC in an epic Finals match.

BATTLEFIELDO.com released a great podcast that interviews [20ID] Daskro and a couple other guys that played BF3 at the GeForce LAN. They talk about some important points that will help make this game a great. It a long podcast so if you don’t have time to listen to it. Here are a couple key points that were questioned in beta.

  • Hit Regs were fixed and you can now tell the instant you are shot instead of having the feeling you were instantly killed in one shot.
  • Improved Map so you can tell where the heck you are going.
  • Squad Management – VERY important but old news, you can now join and leave squads.
  • 3D Spotting fixed so you can’t see them through buildings or solid objects.
  • In Game Console – There has been some rumors and screenshots that there is an in-game Console which will could be used to restart servers and change settings.

Battlefield 3 Reality TV Show

I know this has nothing to do with competition for us gamers and BF3. But I thought it would be kind of cool to share. Gamespot is throwing a $50,000 reality TV show online that throws together 12 noobs and pros (not sure what they are pro at) to try and win the big prize. All of the challenges will either be Real life obstacles with a BF3 influence, or the noobs will be playing the actual game. Check it out, could be fun in between your round of BF3.

Here’s a little glimpse of one of the maps Damavand Peak. It’s actually pretty nice to find a player in one of these demo LAN videos that isn’t terrible. If anyone know’s who won the GeForce Lan please let me know. The more information the better! =)

Change your BF3 Name

EA has been constantly dodging the question about only having one soldier per account. Which leads me to believe that you will only get one soldier per account. This would also make perfect sense as the Battlelog goes with your soldier as well. And as of right now it may be a lot easier to only give us one soldier. Think about Facebook and Twitter for example, what if you were able to make fake accounts on one account. Don’t think it would really work.

So I hope you got a good main Origin/BF3 name. If not, you are in luck! (If you have an Iphone or Andriod)

Simply download Scrabble Free for iOS/Android and then log in with your Origin account. Once you’ve logged in go to settings (the little gear in the bottom left corner) and then click on “Edit Account” and there you go. You can change your username to something you are more comfortable with.

Unfortunately, my name was taken already no matter how I tried to spell it, so I just kept it the same.

Did this work for you? Leave me a comment!

BF3 Flashlights and Notable Changes

In the BF3Beta, it feels like Dice wanted to really emphasize on the saying “Don’t go towards the light”. As they made the “Tactical” flashlights as bright as the light coming from heaven, I assume would be like. This was one of the most annoying new features to the game, because it sort of stuns you and even though your shooting directly at the light right in front of you, you seem to miss. On the bright side, in an interview by GameSpy they asked:

GameSpy: Are you toning the flashlights down a bit?

Lars: Yeah, they should be much better at release.

Also the much anticipated Comma Rose will be coming to BF3, but probably not by release:

GameSpy: We’ve heard there’s going to be a command rose at launch for PC. Is that still going to be ready for launch? What sort of functionality might it include?

Lars: It is on our list for trying to get in there at launch. It is the usual things that you can really miss on the battlefield. Bail out is a typical one; you’re sitting in a helicopter and you realize that you want to attack the flag, and there’s no way to tell you’re buddy that you’re going to bail out.

Post BF3 Beta Thoughts & Competition

The BF3 Beta is officially over and this leaves us time (TOO Much time) to reflect on our thoughts about beta. There were many bugs, to say the least with just the two maps we saw during our couple weeks of playing the beta. But some of the big game changing bugs we saw have already been addressed by Dice and they are either fixed or they are working hard to have it fixed by release.

My First Beta Thoughts
I have not had this much fun playing an FPS or video game in general since BF2. That does not mean I think it will be better, but I was sure having a blast even with all of the bugs and crashes. The battlelog is pretty awesome, it makes it easy to join servers and play with friends, big plus to that. I know a lot of players are crying about no in-game server browser. But to be honest, this one worked perfectly fine, I would even argue it was better than the in-game server browser for BC2, which if you remember was broken for a while when it first game out. I love most of the guns, some were a little stronger than others, but all of them seem to be fairly good. So yeah, for the most part I Loved the beta and I have no idea what I am going to do for 15 days till release.

Competition Thoughts
It’s very hard to speculate on what the rules will be used in BF3 competition, every league/tournament is different. There are a couple of questions that I can think of that I think needs to be discussed once the game comes out.

  • Unlocks?
If you think back to BF2, all games had to be played with stock guns when servers were private you couldn’t use any unlocks and your stats weren’t recorded. Will this be the case for BF3? I honestly believe it would be amazing if we just used stock guns. The M16 and the AK are still very powerful guns, even if unlocks are aloud, every player would end up using the same most powerful gun anyways.
  • Spawn Beacons?
As amazing as it sounds, I see it being HELL for competition. Why? The maps are already Gigantic (Caspian). Remember trying to find a squad leader sometimes hiding as his team keeps spawning and attacking? Well now add another backup plan to the squad leader dying, you have a spawn Beacon to find as well as try to defend a whole squad from taking your flag. This would lead to no defense, and even more flag hopping.
  • 8v8? or 4v4?
Where will the main competition be?
I can see the online leagues going for an 8v8 platform, but the 4v4 maybe the tournament style games.

There are many questions left to be answered, but these are only a few that I wanted to talk about today. What aspects of the game concerns you for Competition?  Leave a comment.
